Guys who will sit on a stool on a stage with a guitar and a microphone. Damn those guys are good. Music is a big part of my life, in the last 18 months I have seen 28 live musicians and have another 4 booked up before the year is over. I love music. But I must say, some of the biggest artists on the planet, which I too love, SUCK! I have seen Take That twice, once upon a time they were rather big, now not so much, but they are still widely loved by the world over, and no one can really turn down a cheeky listen to classics like Never Forget or Pray! Likewise I have seen the well loved Olly Murs who was an excellent performer and a brilliant show man! On the other end of the scale I have seen the rather ancient singers like The Pet Shop Boys and Neil Diamond who all these years on still impress. Last night the MTV VMAs were broadcast in the UK, the show opened with a medley of songs by the wonderful Rihanna. Let me quickly add, I love Rihanna so much and tried to purchase tickets for the super star earlier this year. However this performance was rather weak, because actually the marvelous singer we all love and sing along to, was also singing along to her own voice, only sometimes she wouldn’t do that and she would just dance to these songs instead. Slightly disappointing, but oh well, as Rihanna returned for 3 more Karaoke sessions through out the night. The papers then reported that she ‘Blew us away’. Well yeah I suppose, but only because she sucked! I love Rihanna I really do. But if I want to go and see Rihanna I want to see her sing not dance along to her songs. Like wise seeing artists like Selena Gomez and the Black Eyed Peas perform live isn’t fantastic, and it becomes quite obvious that the talent goes to who ever could modify their voices and not actually the singer. You see the thing is, I have seen a lot of unknown and smaller artists. Guys who will sit on a stool on a stage with a guitar and a microphone. Damn those guys are good. I saw a man named King Charles named after the Stuart King, and wow what a poet he was! He was a wonderful creation. Jamie Lawson the singer of ‘I wasn’t expecting that’ I saw this Summer. I must say I dont particularly like that song, but the rest of his set was bloody amazing. Later this year I am seeing the Latino indie artist Jack Savoretti for the fifth time lucky. All of these artists will stand on a stage and sing, no mimics and just sing, yet they do not receive enough credit for what they do, but those artists who are rather fake and cant particularly sing become multi millionaires. Let me point out 100 years ago, those with the microphone and guitars would have succeeded but these fame sponging pop stars wouldn’t have. Despite this there are some mega artists which are also very similar to this, we of course have Ed Sheeran, Coldplay and Adele. These three are also some of my most favourite people to listen to, two of which headlined the biggest festival in the world this year. What do you think to this? Do you remember Adele singing ‘Someone like you’ at the Brits with a voice and a piano whilst other stars mimed to the MP3 of their greatest hits! My latest YouTube video has a more in depth rant into what I truly think about this, if you're interested!
